First of all let me just say this woman is PURE GENIUS! It was just like a Pampered Chef or Southern Living Party, only it covers the kiddos bottoms.
I’m not really sure if there are other things like it in other states, but in our area she is the only one of her kind. When she was pregnant with her third child she realized she wasn’t taking care of the Earth the way she could/should and she wasn’t saving her money the way God wants us too, so she looked into disposable/cloth diapers and used disposable diapers for the first few weeks then made the change to cloth and hasn’t looked back.
She brought all sorts of brands, styles, including pre-fold. She demonstrated how all of them worked. She said what she liked/didn’t like about each one that she was discussing, including which ones were better for boys/girls kids who like to pee a good amount and kiddos who don’t.
My favorite part was when I asked her which ones were best for babies who usually leave the hospital under 6 pounds or right over 6 pounds, and she gave me the most HONEST answer I could have asked for: they do make cloth diapers for babies of this size but it would be around a $200.00 investment and the baby would only need them for a few weeks. Yes we plan to have more, but there is no guarantee that we would re-coop our costs, so we should just use disposables in the interim. This is her business but she also wants to see other mommies save money as well!
She had a great chart that included the “average” number of disposable diapers and costs compared to the investment of cloth diapers, and how if you use them on more than one child you would end up making money. Several ladies there proclaimed “they were done” but all looked at me and said “hey you guys will make millions” not sure that we will make that much but hey it’s a good perk! According to their charts which I found to be pretty accurate as we only use Pampers Swaddlers/Cruisers it will cost about $3000.00 (just under) for us to diaper the next baby from birth to potty training (she has them training at two which is a bit younger than Claire was {27 months}). If we purchased the cheapest cloth diaper package that would work from birth to potty training it would be about $280.00 or $870.00 for the most expensive cloth diapers. That is saving a huge chunk of change AND I will probably be able to re-use most of the diapers on the next baby.
Because she wants to make sure everyone can save money and the Earth she will buy back stain free products in the future and re-sell them to other moms. While I think this is a great idea I know that we will be purchasing fresh ones
.
She has a great sheet with laundry detergents lists and why they are good/not good/ possibly good for cloth diapers.
I have to say hands down it was the most informative party I could have gone too, and I oh so wish hubby had been there and he now wishes he and the kiddos had come along as well. Luckily this fabulous genius emailed me all the info early this morning so I could explain everything better to hubby.
She offered to come over or meet us somewhere so hubs can see everything as well, which I really appreciated.
Am I sold? We have agreed to go disposable in the beginning and at least try the Mother-Ease All In One Diaper, or possibly the Happy Hinies one size diapers (one diaper will work from 8 pounds until 35 pounds).
I didn’t purchase any, and I probably wont until closer to my due date, but don’t worry when we do I will review them for you guys
.
